mtgtheory decks: RDW Burn Primer

Welcome to another mtgtheory decks the series where we do primers on decks and the synergies and the main cards in them. Welcome to Mono-Red Burn or RDW! Modern is a great format for RDW, as you get access to cards that are perfect burn since 2003! This is a Red Deck Wins I personally recommend to play.

You will like this deck if you like:

  1. Winning with fire!
  2. Winning in a quick and fun way.
  3. Winning with Red!
  4. Just so you can say Buurrrnn!!

You will hate this deck if you:

  1. Hate Burn Decks!
  2. You like playing control decks!
  3. Hate red!

How to play the Deck

Early Game: You burn your opponent to the ground! In all seriousness use your burn spells to lower your opponent’s life and/or use your burn spells to clear out any blockers. Use creatures such as Goblin Guide, Hellspark Elemental to attack your opponent.

Mid-Game: Finish your opponent off.

Endgame: Endgame? What Endgame? If it gets this far you’ve probably lost the game.

 

Your attackers

You have a small team of attackers since we need to focus on the burn spells. Your attackers are creatures where you can just cast and turn sideways.

Goblin Guide 2/2 haste for one mana yes please.

Spark Elemental a 3/1 haste with trample for one mana. Hell yes!

 

Burn Spells

Burn spells are probably the most important cards in your deck. They are your removal and the key to get your opponents down to zero.

Lightning Bolt well duh, you can’t have a burn deck without this card.

Lava Spike burns your opponents for 3 life.

Rift Bolt suspending this lets you play it sooner.

The rest of the burn spells Magma Jet, Searing Blaze, Shard Volley all help get the job done.

Sideboard

Your sideboard helps you deal with certain situations:

Leyline of Punishment is your answer to lifegain decks.

Smash to Smithereens is your answers to artifact decks.

Anger of the Gods is to take out a creature heavy deck.

Dragon’s Claw will give you life.

Searing Blood is just another burn spell that you can use.

With this deck remember: Burn baby Burn!
